Clúid celebrates opening of Ormond Drive and Ballygraigue Court in Nenagh

On Friday 15th May Clúid Housing Association will celebrate the official opening of its two new housing developments in Nenagh, Co. Tipperary. Clúid is using this opportunity to call on the Government to maintain the investment in social housing build programmes even in these financially challenging times.

As people lose their jobs and their circumstances change it is inevitable that the housing lists will grow. There are now over 56,000 households in need of social housing. Clúid is concerned that if the social housing programme is wound down it will take several years to reinstate. Therefore it is essential that the Government continues to invest money now.

Clúid believes that social housing is the platform for social progress – an affordable, secure home is the foundation on which individuals and families can build their careers, their personal networks and participate fully in society.

This is Clúid’s fifteenth year in operation; in the last 15 years Clúid has built over 3,000 homes across 23 counties. All of Clúid’s developments are 100% funded by the DoEHLG and without this funding the 3,000 plus Clúid tenants could potentially still be on the local authorities’ waiting lists, living in overcrowded family homes or unsuitable and often substandard private rented accommodation.

The capital cost of the two new Clúid developments in Nenagh is €20 million all of which was funded by the Department of the Environment. The development was built in partnership with the local authorities – Nenagh Town Council & North Tipperary County Council.

Clúid welcome the involvement of Dave Fitzgerald Construction and Nenagh Construction and the local sub contracting firms.

All residents in both developments have been drawn from the Nenagh Town Council and North Tipperary County Council housing lists.

Clúid works in partnership with the local authority to ensure all their developments are sustainable and that a range of households are housed. Clúid assesses the tenants’ rent based on their income which means that our properties are always affordable.

In order to continue to provide quality housing at affordable prices Clúid needs the Government to continue to invest in social housing.

Nenagh Town Mayor, Councillor Virginia O’ Dowd, North Tipperary County Manager, Terry O’ Niadh, Nenagh TD Máire Hoctor and Clúid Board Member Christopher Mc Garry all spoke at the event. All guest speakers wished the Clúid’s new tenants well in their new homes.

Terry O’ Niadh thanked Clúid “I want to congratulate Cluid Housing Association on bringing an additional 107 housing units to the town which represents an almost 50% increase in the social housing stock in Nenagh.” He wished “all tenants, present and future, well in their new homes and hope they develop quickly into happy, sustainable communities as part of the greater community in the town.”

Christopher Mc Garry thanked the design team, in particular the two construction firms, Nenagh Construction and Dave FitzGerald saying “The new homes have been superbly designed both in the internal layouts and in respect of the public space and amenity around them.” He also thanked the Department of the Environment for funding both schemes which in cost in the region of €20 million to complete.

Christopher used the opportunity to state that Clúid “intend to continue to grow our housing stock and to expand our work into related areas, such as estate management, regeneration work.” Clúid believes that social housing is the platform for social progress and therefore “in all circumstances, we will place at the heart of this work our aim to meet the needs of residents.”

Clúid and Sisk

This year Sisk Group celebrates 150 years in Ireland and to commemorate this occasion they launched the Sisk Group Volunteer Programme. The purpose of the project is to get Sisk Group staff across all of the group’s companies to work together to give something back to their local communities. The Sisk Group have selected a number of charitable organisations to work with and Clúid Housing Association is proud to be one of the recipients.

On Tuesday 28th April volunteers from Sisk arrived at the Community Hall at our Killarney Court development in Dublin 1 to repaint the hall in its entirety. It was a fantastic day thoroughly enjoyed by all of the Sisk volunteers and by Clúid. There were a mix of skill sets from Sisk’s on site staff to office staff and all worked tirelessly from 8am to 6pm to complete the task in hand. The Killarney Court Community Hall is used by a number of local community groups who will all benefit from Sisk’s generosity. Sisk very kindly left a gift for the mother and baby group who use the hall – toys made from Joinery Division.

Clúid would like to take this opportunity to extend our thanks to Daragh Byrne, Ivan Mc Carthy and all the team from the Sisk Group who have transformed the Killarney Court Community Hall.
