However, Mr McManus added, ‘there must be a sound financial basis to underpin the scheme in order to ensure its success’.

'Housing Federation predicts rise in waiting lists for housing'

Housing waiting lists will rise in the coming years and will exceed 100,000 households, the Irish Council for Social Housing warned today. The national housing federation issued its warning at its Dublin regional meeting where over 30 housing associations met to discuss the crisis.

NAMA - Expressions of Interest

Following the Minister’s announcement in December 2011 that a potential 2,000 residential properties would be made available by NAMA debtors and Receivers for social housing purposes, the Housing Agency has been working with NAMA and the Department in relation to the availability of these residential properties.

The purpose of issuing this expression of interest request is to provide all AHBs with the opportunity to register their interest in leasing or acquiring properties that may become available during the course of this year.

Waiting Lists increase by 75% to almost 100,000 households

The Irish Council for Social Housing has said that there is a crisis in social housing in reaction to the figures released today which reveal that there are 98,318 households on a waiting list for housing.

Executive Director of the Irish Council for Social Housing Mr Donal McManus said, ‘The huge increase in the number of households in housing need since the last assessment in 2008 is unprecedented and gives a clear idea of the scale of the challenge ahead’.

Housing Charity welcomes increase in income limits for social housing

The Irish Council for Social Housing (ICSH), the national federation for voluntary housing associations, has welcomed the increase of €5,000 to the maximum income limits for social housing support. This increases the threshold in Dublin city from €30,000 - €35,000 for a single person and from €36,000 to €42,000 for a family of three adults and four children.
