Clár I.C.H. launch Sustainable Housing Network Mayo

CLAR ICH, a voluntary housing association in Claremorris, Co. Mayo is establishing a Sustainable Housing Network for housing associations in Co. Mayo. CLAR ICH received funding under the Wheel’s Training Links programme to deliver training and mentoring. The training will include the following areas: Energy Management, Renewable Energy, Water and Waste Management, Tenant Education and Sustainable Development. It is envisaged to hold one day of training per month over the course of nine months and arrange a number of study visits to examples of best practice sustainable housing. The first training day and network launch took place on Tuesday 31st January 2012 at the McWilliam Park Hotel, Claremorris. Project Co-ordinator, Ms. Aine Carr commented that the objective is to give housing associations the skills and knowledge to implement energy conservation, renewable energy, waste and water saving measures.

The network was launched by Mr. Seamus McCormack, Board member of CLAR ICH who commented that the initiative is timely given the spiralling energy costs for the voluntary housing sector. The event was attended by Ms. Margaret Coleman of the Irish Council for Social Housing(ICSH), the national representative body for housing associations which welcomed the initiative. Speakers from the following organisation took part Energy Action, Powersavvy and Renewable Energy Mayo.
